World AIDS Day brings attention to global struggle against HIV/AIDS
Theme for 2006 event is “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise.”

Seattle, Wash.—November 28, 2006—Lifelong AIDS Alliance today announced a comprehensive listing of World AIDS Day events to be held through Puget Sound on Friday, December 1, 2006. The 19th annual World AIDS Day, part of a global effort, is comprised of a series of events, organized by government, non-profit and public organizations. The day is dedicated to remembering the victims of AIDS, learning more about the devastating effects of the disease and reaffirming the commitment to fight it.

Since 1981, more than 25 million people have died of AIDS. Worldwide, 40 million people are now living with HIV/AIDS, with one million in the United States and an estimated 9,000 in King County. Each year, there are approximately 40,000 new infections in the United States.

All events marking World AIDS Day take place on Friday, December 1, 2006:

• Movement In Red Fashion Show
Lifelong AIDS Alliance’s youth program, MPowerment, presents an evening of schmoozing, fashion and awards. Social hour at 6:30 p.m., Show at 8:00 p.m., Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway, Seattle, Free.

• Saving Lives, Changing Lives: World AIDS Day Benefit Luncheon
This benefit luncheon for Multifaith Works will showcase the mission and service of Multifaith Works to people living with AIDS, MS or other life-threatening illnesses over the last 18 years. Noon, Westin Seattle, 1900 5th Ave, Seattle. More information at http://www.multifaith.org/.

• SIP for DIFFA
Join Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) supporters, local businesses and Seattle-area HIV/AIDS organizations for an evening of remembrance and hope. 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., W Seattle, 1112 Fourth Ave, Seattle. $25 suggested donation. RSVP (206) 763-8885 or diffaseattle@yahoo.com

• You, Me, Us

• The Children Left Behind: AIDS Orphans Around the World
Experience this compelling multi-media exhibit featuring the creative works and stories that capture life through the eyes of AIDS orphans and other children left vulnerable by HIV/AIDS from Uganda, South Africa, India, Cambodia and Guatemala. • AIDS Memorial Quilt Display

• Kitsap County World AIDS Day Commemoration
