LIFELONG AIDS ALLIANCE APPLAUDS GOVERNOR GREGOIRE FOR SIGNING THE DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP EXPANSION BILL
Senate Bill 5688 passed with a 62-35 vote and grants hundreds of new rights and responsibilities to domestic partner rights established two years ago.
Washington – In 2007, Governor Gregoire first signed the Domestic Partner bill into law, providing some rights to lesbian and gay couples and their families. The Domestic Partnership bill she signed on May 18, 2009, ensures all the rights and responsibilities to registered domestic partners that married couples are granted.
Director of Prevention, Education and Public Policy at Lifelong AIDS Alliance Erick Seelbach explains, “This is a milestone accomplishment and it will provide significant and much needed legal protections and rights to so many families in Washington.” He adds, “This is great news for so many Lifelong clients, staff and members of our community.”
Lifelong AIDS Alliance is committed to preventing the spread of HIV, and to providing practical support services and advocating for those whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS. Lifelong is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
