DEFINITION:
The Special Events Intern helps support to the Events Team regarding the coordination and planning the Seattle AIDS Walk 2008 and implantation of other related Lifelong AIDS Alliance programs. This position’s primary role is to assist with walk team coordination, event coordination and reports to the Director of Marketing & Events.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SEATTLE AIDS WALK (OCTOBER 4, 2008):
1. Work closely with the Community Relations Coordinator and Seattle AIDS Walk Committee and assist with team coordination.
2. Assist with the design and implementation of team recruitment strategies for Seattle AIDS Walk 2008.
3. Help develop and design packets/information for the teams’ organizations (corporate, schools, businesses, etc.) for recruiting, motivating and acknowledging individual team member participation for the AIDS Walk.
4. Assist the Community Relations Coordinator to train team representatives in organizing, recruiting and motivating team participants.
5. Coordinate and assist with the distribution of team materials.
6. Assist with volunteer work coordination for Seattle AIDS Walk.
7. Staff and help provide team support on the day of the Seattle AIDS Walk.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist in maintaining appropriate related files and records.
2. Oversee collection of all media mentions related to the associated events.
3. Perform other duties as assigned, including any prep work for planning events in the 2008 calendar year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Entering sophomore, junior or senior college year, or equivalent educational experience, is preferred.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Proficient use of the Internet as a research tool and computer software including: Word, Outlook and Excel.
• Willingness to experience working within the community sector and with a volunteer program.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with team members.
• Able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, when necessary.
• Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
• Reliable transportation required.
• Comfortable working in a diverse environment, including working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities.
COMMITMENT TIMELINE:
This internship will need to make a commitment through October 17, 2008. Arrangements can be made for summer vacations/trips and summer or fall classes but must be discussed during the interview for proper calendar coordination.
PAY:
Position pays $4,500 stipend (stipend is broken down to meet pay date timeline).
