Here are some special opportunities tailor-made for businesses, community organizations, school groups or religious groups:
Food Delivery Adopt-A-Route
Groups may choose to adopt a food delivery route close to their neighborhood. See the Food Delivery job description for time commitment and volunteer responsibilities. Groups may divide the weekly shifts or partner to complete the routes. Food generally takes place on Thursdays between the hours of 4pm and 7pm.
Care To Shop
Held on Saturdays at partner grocery stores throughout King County, Care To Shop serves as a food drive and raises community awareness around HIV/AIDS. Volunteers hand out flyers at grocery stores and collect on-site donations of food, money, and gift cards. Groups may also Adopt-A-Store and divide shifts among members.
Special Events
This is a great opportunity for both large and small groups! We have had groups adopt a restaurant to act as ambassadors for Dining Out for Life, and we can take large groups of up to 25 or 50 to help out at the Seattle AIDS Walk & 5K Run. We also allow groups to walk with us in the Gay Pride Parade helping to hand out safer sex kits. Dining Out for Life happens the last Thursday in April, the Seattle AIDS Walk & 5K Run happens usually the last Saturday in September, and Gay Pride is the last Sunday in June.
Food and Paper Bag Drives
Lifelong is always in need of non-perishable food and paper bag donations for client food delivery. Groups often sponsor food and paper bag drives in their own communities. If you wish to sponsor such an event, please contact us for more information on needed items.
Safer Sex Kit Parties
Help us put together our safer sex kits! Condoms, lube, and info cards are packaged to get ready to be handed out in our outreach efforts. Safer sex kit parties can happen anytime between the hours of 9am and 8pm on Monday through Friday. This is a fun group opportunity and allows your group to have some time socializing while working towards a cause.
Onsite Group Volunteering
On Tuesdays through Fridays between the hours of 9am and 4pm, Lifelong welcomes groups of up to 20 volunteers to help with tasks such as packaging meals and grocery bags in our kitchen and warehouse, processing clothing donations in our Thrift Store, and helping out with facilities and special events projects. Groups may need to be split up depending upon the size of the group.
Mama's Dish
Mama's Dish is our monthly congregate meal where clients, staff, and volunteers come together to have a meal. Volunteers help setup the room, set tables, arrange flowers, serve food, and cleanup the room. This usually occurs the last Friday of every month. Volunteering would be from 10am to approximately 2pm and all members of the group would be able to enjoy the free meal too! We can sometimes accommodate larger groups for this as long as your group doesn’t mind being split up to have volunteers working in a different part of the organization. This can be a one time opportunity or a monthly recurring opportunity.
Materials Distribution and Community Outreach
Help us get the word out about Lifelong! Groups of volunteers canvas areas of King County posting flyers and materials for our organization and notify people about our special events.
